What is Tui Na?
Tui Na in Chinese literally means "pushing" and "Grasping". Tui Na is a form of Chinese medicine that is most closely related to to a combination of shiatsu, acupressure and naprapathy. The treatment is typically very deep tissue and while being done you can have some discomfort, however, the quick and lasting benefits this therepy has to offer are amazing.
How does it work?
Diagnosis and treatment are based on the same principles as acupuncture - the traditional Chinese medical theory of the flow of Qi through the meridians. Specific techniques are used to work on the meridians and on specific points, to harmonise the balance of Qi - allowing the body to heal itself naturally.
Like acupressure, Tui Na directly affects the flow of energy by holding and pressing the body at acupressure points.
In a typical session, the client, wearing loose clothing and no shoes, normally lies down. The practitioner explores the problem and uses ancient Tui Na techniques on acupressure points, energy meridians, muscles and joints.
Tui Na can be used for treatment of:
- Muscle Tension
- Muscle Pain
- Joint Pain
- Asthma
- Breathing Problems
- Digestive Disorders
- Abdominal Discomfort
